...and Some Fun Times!

The first tenting experience was in about 1957 in Yosemite National Park...a truly awesome place on this earth!  It was COLD; the swimsuit was new and the water turned our skin blue; the place was bigger than life itself to a 10-yr-old; and there were bears who visited our campsite.  WOW!

The second most wonderful tenting experience was at the bottom of the Grand Canyon in about 1986, following the death of a husband....I just had to do something extraordinary to prove I was going to make it alone....sleeping under the stars and chasing Bobtail Cats away from our food bags (a very small group led by a professional guide)...flaming desert in the total darkness of the deep canyon...blisters galore on my feet - forcing hiking miles in flip-flops, tossing the hiking boots aside!  Having never, ever been on a long hike, I walked across the Grand Canyon and assumed my share of the load for the group very well.  BINGO!  I'm gonna make it!

Now, I've 'given in' to 'giving up' tenting in favor of a beautiful little trailer camper (nicknamed 'the tent')....everything becoming so clean, organized, and ready to go with little notice.  No more picking up the tent and shaking it out to clean it.  Now we vacuum, fold up the sofa bed, manage the water, sewer, heating, etc. systems...all modern.  Climate control too...no fan in the doorway to keep out the mosquitos; but a safe, locked screen and outer entrance door.  I like the microwave and nice two sided sink and full bathroom with a tub and big linen closet...but we like best of all the outdoor electric plug that allows us to develop our own 'outdoor kithen,' as our camper trailer didn't come with one of those.  BINGO!  I guess I have made it!  This is a lot like Paradise!  Birds, birds, and more birds; crickets singing all night; October leaves falling from trees; relaxing time to snuggle or walk, holding hands, in the cool evening and early morning chill; the smell of grills firing up each evening all around us; 'hello's abounding from all those we meet and greet; sweaters and sweat pants...how SWEET it is!!!

We are so exctied to be enjoying our 'new home' away from home.  Gosh, how gorgeous our state is and how friendly and caring the other campers.  It's a world away from the fears and dangers of city or country life.  I hope it stays that way.

Happy camping to y'all too!
